Scholarship
Our Faculty administers one scholarship option - excellent study results during studies. This scholarship is awarded in the amount EUR 6000 per year to the best students according to their study results in the previous academic year. Students enrolled in the first year are not eligible for this scholarship.
Study abroad
It is possible to participate in short-term study, research and clinical placements through the GM study programme. Additionally, it is possible to undertake an internship at an institution of your choice in all the countries involved in the programme and in institutions active in the labour market (such as hospitals, health centres, universities) for a period of between 2 and 12 months.
Humanitarian opportunities
Through the OU AID University Programme, our students can go abroad and work as volunteers in developing countries in Africa and Asia (e.g. Tanzania, Kenya, Philippines, Ethiopia, Sumatra, Georgia). In collaboration with external partners, students can stay abroad for a minimum of 28 days. Up to 100% of the estimated costs will be covered by the programme.
Student organisation
IMFSA - International Federation of Medical Student Associations is one of the oldest and largest student NGOs in the world. Any medical student in the Czech Republic who applies for membership can become a member of IFMSA. Membership is voluntary and free of charge,allowing participation in clinical and research placements abroad and assistance in the organisation of various projects.
Affordable living costs
Ostrava is also an affordable city for students. The cost of living and housing is relatively lower than in other parts of Europe, allowing students to take advantage of a wider range of opportunities and activities outside their studies. The University provides accommodation in student halls of residence located in various parts of Ostrava. Students are responsible for arranging and booking their accommodation themselves. Students can also arrange their accommodation in private flats.
Hands-on medical training provided from the early years
You can gain practical experience in a total of three hospitals: the University Hospital (1,100 beds = 47,000 patients/year), the Municipal Hospital, and a Private Hospital. A smaller number of students allows us to provide a more individualized approach – you won’t get lost in the crowd with us.
